Account Director - Smart Metering Technology - Spencer-Ogden - Tokyo
Job description
Account Director / General Manager urgently required for important role within an international Smart Metering end-to-end solutions provider who are recruiting for their first full time person in Japan.
The successful candidate will be a sales and business development leader within the Energy Utilities technology space, ideally with a strong focus in Smart Metering and/or Smart Grid technologies. You will therefore be very well connected with the Energy utility leaders / industry in Japan.
This high profile role is of strategic importance and carries responsibility to own and develop key business relationships in Japan with major Japanese corporations and utilities. Following more than two years of business development activities led by my client, the job holder will be targeted to close significant profitable business and build a local team to support activities as and when the investment is required.
Responsibilities:
- The post holder will be responsible for building a Japanese business centre in the Tokyo area. - - This will involve the creation of a local office and recruiting a support team in tune with the business opportunity as it develops.
- To build on the business development activities of the past two years and to convert developing business relationships already established into revenue generating business.
- To recruit the broad spectrum of skills required to support the roll-out of products to operation status in the Japanese market and to lead these effectively.
- To represent and report progress in a timely manner the Japanese business to senior management within the EMEA & AP business division and the Global HQ in the U.S.
- To be the public voice of my client, comfortable working with the media and happy with public speaking at industry events.
Qualifications/experience:
- The successful candidate will have experience of working for an American or other English speaking western company leading business in the Japanese market. They will have an excellent command of English and be comfortable operating in both western and Japanese business cultures. They will have a track record of successfully developing business in an IT, telecoms, or similar technology based sector and will be able to deal with the technical and commercial aspects of these businesses.
- Leadership of a business sector with significant media presence and public speaking would be an advantage.
- Experience of Brand development and marketing activities within the Japanese market.
- Financially aware and able to effectively work and delivery business benefit within budget limits.
- Degree, higher level and/or MBA qualification or similar, however significant referenceable experience and a successful proven track record in a similar environment is essential.
- Minimum 10 years Sales experience in a Communications, Network, technology environment.
- Strong leadership, motivation and managerial skills
- Team player who works productively and cordially with a wide range of internal and external contacts across time zones
- Motivated self-starter, comfortable in fast-paced environment
- Managing financial budgets and all team costs, input experience of annual budget planning cycles
- Strong demonstrable people and people management skills experience essential
- Ability to communicate with and influence both up, across and down the organisation and externally.

Salary: USD $250k - $350k + Benefits / will be paid in equivalent JPY
