Director - Global Corporate Affairs SAP - Tokyo


Job description
The Director of Corporate Affairs for a market unit is focused on sustaining and supporting the SAP business externally and internally. As support for the managing director and executive leadership team with communications counsel, especially employee communications and execution of external media programs, this person will be a direct report to the Head of Global Corporate Affairs for Asia Pacific Japan.


The role has overall planning and budget responsibility for all program and agency spend.

The overall Communications objectives are to ensure SAP increases brand equity and supports sales to meet global, regional and local strategies. The expectation is that the integrated Communications lead will drive the local communications strategy to reinforce and execute high-impact communications programs that align with global and regional objectives.

This role will be the executive communications counsel to the leadership of the market unit and support all communications in that regard – both internally and externally focused. In addition, this role will drive the local CSR agenda in line with global CSR strategy and regional guidance.



The successful candidate will deliver communications programs that

Drive business initiatives to reach internal & external key stakeholders
Work collaboratively to roll out high value themes and topics, programs and message platforms into the region to increase engagements with national and international business and trade media
Demonstrate to external audiences that SAP is an innovative company that drives business value for our customers
Demonstrate expertise in key verticals
Gain share of mind over competitors (both traditional and new entrants)
Support employee communications campaigns and activities
Support growth aspirations with strategic communications that cascade global and regional strategy into local regional strategy
Help our employees better understand the direction of the business and the role they play in it
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the company's communications with impact and clarity, reflecting the company's business objectives, with alignment to the global communications strategy.
Develop and localize messages, executive storyline, manage messaging consistency, synthesizing information and disseminating relevant content to the field
Perform Corporate Communications in a growing, highly competitive environment and in crisis situations
Develop content and manage key messages for the MD, and to be a key trusted advisor, providing recommendations on appropriate proactive and reactive communication requirements and opportunities that affect external and internal audiences
Take responsibility for driving employee communications programs to ensure understanding of the strategy and adoption of the company’s mission, vision and values
Work closely with global and regional Corporate Social Responsibility teams to roll out initiatives
Manage communications strategy planning & budget process
Assist with cross-functional and cross-regional collaboration activities
Foster strong relationships with key influencers

Desired Skills and Experience
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA

Effectively bilingual in Japanese and English
A minimum of 15 years work experience in a fast-paced, high growth global organization, with knowledge of, or exposure to, the software solutions industry
Bachelor’s degree or higher
Strategic thinker with demonstrable experience in communications planning and executive communications, and able to work directly and build good rapport with executives
Capable of managing relationships across a global organization and an effective contributor in an executive leadership team environment
Skillful communicator who knows how to craft and deliver key messages and to convey those messages to a variety of audiences using a vast array of communications vehicles
Strategic, able to design communications plans for a complex, growing company and successfully implement them
Astute executive counsel, excellent interpersonal relationships, and able to foster a true sense of cooperation, camaraderie and trust with people at all levels within the company and externally
Experience in crisis communications and an ability to handle situations quickly, effectively and credibly
Demonstrable experience working in virtual teams
