Director - Public Relations - Digital - Amazon - Tokyo
Job description
Amazon Japan is seeking a world-class communications professional to lead communications for its consumer hardware and digital media businesses. In just the past seven years, Amazon has made a name for itself in the consumer electronics industry with its own line of popular devices – first the Kindle e-reader that changed the way the world enjoys books and then Kindle Fire which quickly became one of the most popular tablets in the world and the most successful product Amazon ever built. With these devices and the series of applications Amazon offers for all the major platforms, millions of people around the world enjoy Amazon’s unrivaled digital media ecosystem with over 23 million books, songs, videos, games and apps.
In this role, you will develop new and compelling ways to educate the news media and consumers on the many benefits of Kindle tablets, e-readers and Amazon’s leading customer-centric digital media ecosystem. You will be relied upon as a key advisor to Amazon’s senior business leaders in making important communications and business decisions, often in very short timeframes. You will be asked to deliver a strategic communications plan for broadening awareness among consumers through the media, encompassing Amazon Kindle, Amazon Kindle Fire, Kindle Books, Kindle Direct Publishing, Amazon MP3, Amazon Instant Video, Prime Instant Video, Amazon Studios, and Amazon Appstore. You will work closely with the leaders of these businesses in the development and execution of this strategic communications plan. A portion of this plan will be devoted to the PR team you envision building.
Desired Skills and Experience
The right candidate should have 10+ years of experience in public relations, a significant piece of which should be spent on consumer technology, in-house ideally with a large and globally-recognized brand, and successfully leading a team. To succeed in this role, you must have extraordinarily high judgment, energy, creativity, standards for yourself and others, writing and leadership skills. You should be a missionary – someone who will wake up every day and go to bed at night thinking about our customers and how we can continue to make them aware of our digital and hardware offering; someone who likes to invent and not be redundant; and you must be willing to think long term, without forgetting to manage the short term.
This role reports to the Vice President of PR for Worldwide Digital Media and Hardware in Seattle and partners closely with the Director of PR for Amazon Japan.
Business level both Japanese and English.
