Director - Channel, SMB & SP - PayPal - Tokyo


Job description
The Director of Channels, SMB & SP is a critical component of the PayPal Merchant Services team; responsible for developing and implementing strategic business plans to drive growth and ongoing value from the SMB and SP segments, a large and growing segment for PayPal.
Develop and implement a strategic plan to aggressively drive Paypal's growth with small business merchants (SMB) /sole proprietors (SP) and manage the existing Telesales and Direct Sales channels

Prepare a robust operating plan, sales targets and accurate business forecasts so that budgets and forecasts are consistently met and exceeded. Manage relationships with key Channel partners, including shopping carts, payment gateways, technology providers and marketplaces
Deepen business partnerships with key Channel partners to drive best practice integrations and merchant acquisition
Acquire new Channel partners, with best practice integrations
Identify new opportunity for sales and distribution to drive PayPal's growrg with SMB & SP
Deep dive into analytics to have an excellent knowledge of SMB/SP revenue performance, key levers and footings contributing to SMB/SP revenue growth.
Work closely with Marketing and Solutions Management to optimize merchant SMB outreach programs.
Liaise with Business Support to ensure that teams are commercially incentivized and driving cross-sell/upsell opportunities from merchant outreach programs.
Maintain and develop existing and new channel customers through planned individual account support, and liaison with internal order-processing staff.
Work closely with Marketing and Solutions Management to optimize merchant onboarding process.
Identify and pursue opportunities for PayPal to penetrate new markets or merchants, bringing in or responding to sales initiatives when appropriate.
Coach, develop and manage a high performing sales team.
Responsible to meet and exceed financial and other targets set for individual and the team.
Act as primary, business development liaison with internal key contacts (Sales, Marketing, Integration, Product, Operations, Finance, Legal, Risk, Compliance etc.) for small business merchants.
Strategy Development - Develop and maintain the growth plan for the small business merchant that leverages PayPal's advantage in the marketplace and is broadly supported internally by:

Leveraging insightful knowledge about the general market, customers, competitors and regulatory environment.
Collaborating to unlock knowledge and experiences from partners and international colleagues.
Ensuring that the large merchant acquisition plan is consistent with the overall merchant services strategy.
Communicating clear and compelling business development priorities.
Garnering cross-functional resources to enable the execution of the plan.

Relationship Management - Lead your team to develop relationships that create value for new and existing merchants to justify PayPal's price premium and create value for PayPal also by:
Developing deep understanding of clients' businesses and innovative and unique solutions that create "win-win" situations.
Maintaining a good understanding of the external environment to anticipate future client needs.
Remaining diligently and relentlessly focused on delivering the planned results, including closely monitoring performance and implementing timely, effective corrective actions when necessary.
Implementing best practice selling and account management systems and processes.
Being hands-on and responsive to client needs.
Team Leadership - Galvanising the SMB Sales team to effectively build the business and the overall sales competency of the organization by:

Building a team with culture, values and work ethic that is consistent with the boarder organization.
Fostering a spirit of collaboration within the team and across PayPal.
Delegating and empowering others in a way that provides clear direction without micro-managing.
Holding self and others accountable for results.
Adopting a "continuous improvement" mindset.
Coaching and mentoring others by listening and providing clear and timely feedback.

15+ years' experience in Sales with SMB focus is required. Experience in e-Commerce / e-Marketing, IT, Mobile / Telecommunication, Digital Goods, Financial Services, or Payments industry is a plus.
8+ years' experience in people management with proven success in building positive and effective Sales teams; coupled with consistent track record of meeting individual and team targets.
Must have deep insight and broad knowledge with regards to Internet / Mobile, such as Mobile ecosystem, Online / Social Gaming, Digital Goods, e-Commerce.
Strong, proven success in business development.
Strong project management skills - able to lead, prioritize, develop and provide clear direction, influence across cross functional teams.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, negotiation and presentation skills required.
Able to work effectively in a highly-matrix, dynamic and fast paced environment; is open to change.
Results oriented self-starter with plenty of initiative and drive.
