Director - Recruiting - Teach For Japan - Tokyo


Job description
We are seeking a Director of Recruitment, Selection, and Matriculation (“DRSM”) who will be responsible for ensuring that talented and ambitious students and young professionals apply for the Teach For Japan Fellowship program and who will lead the Recruitment, Selection and Matriculation team to ensure that the best fit get selected and matriculate to Teach For Japan.

He or she is primarily responsible for ensuring applications for the Teach For Japan Fellowship, both in terms of quality and quantity. To that end, it conducts presentations at strategically selected universities, corporations and important events nationwide and drives follow-ups with high-potential candidates. He/She will also be responsible for positioning Teach For Japan as an employer of choice for candidates who want to work in the education sector.

This position provides an individual with superior leadership, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills the opportunity to serve as a key contributor to the success of Teach For Japan. This position carries an enormous responsibility of ensuring that Teach for Japan selects and matriculates Fellows who will make significant gains in their classroom and become life-long leaders in the movement towards eliminating educational inequity.
Primary responsibilities
To build and manage a team (with respect to coaching and mentoring, performance planning and evaluation) to achieve ambitious recruitment goals in line with broader organizational objectives.
To develop and oversee execution of strategies to attract more of the “right talent” – increase in quality and quantity - for the Fellowship program from campuses as well as the corporate sector.
To leverage best practices / data available from various sources (e.g., the Teach For All Global Network, corporates, current application trends, etc.) to develop an innovative and effective recruitment campaign.
To manage relationships at the highest level (e.g., University Deans, Business Heads of Companies etc.) for recruitment purposes.
To oversee the creation and execution of a recruitment calendar.
To leverage current Fellows for high-quality application.
To oversee the creation and execution of the selection and matriculation processes.

Desired Skills and Experience
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree required
3 or more years working in the Japanese recruitment sector highly preferred
2 or more years of managing a team to achieve ambitious results (including experience leading trainings)
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Ability to deeply understand Teach For Japan's vision, mission and theory of problem/change
Exemplifies Teach For Japan's core values: transformational change, constant learning, mutual responsibility, and sense of possibility and a commitment to Teach For Japan's mission
Ability to be visionary, strategic, and analytical
Ability to develop strategic plans in a start-up environment and execute successfully against those plans
Ability to track tasks, assess progress, and follow through on the execution of plans (i.e., excellent organization and planning skills)
Ability to develop strong relationships with diverse individuals and to influence and motivate others including high-potential candidates, TFJ supporters, external teachers, TFJ staff and volunteers
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
Ability to deal with a changing and challenging work environment with flexibility and strong will
ŸStrong writing skills and presentation skills
Fluency in MiDRSMsoft Word, Excel and current presentation software, including PowerPoint, highly preferred
ŸNative level Japanese required; Business level English required
