Position Summary
Amazon Japan is looking for a General Manager with proven experiences in thought leadership, detailed execution, and people development to lead a strategic category within Amazon Japan’s Shoes & Bags business. As the leader of the team, you will deliver exceptional growth in sales, free cash flow, and market segment share by defining the strategic direction for the business and leading a diverse team to execute. The leader will be responsible for P&L ownership, ensuring a well-articulated seasonal assortment strategy by customer segment and price point, building and expanding
vendor relationships, improving margin, managing pricing and promotions, leading operational process improvements, and financial and inventory planning ownership for the various categories and vendors.
The candidate will be directly responsible for leading four distinct teams: Vendor Management, In-stock/Planning, Site Merchandising, and 3rd party Seller Management. The leader of this category will have a direct and important role in growing this category; experience
in scaling new businesses, as well as recruiting, developing and motivating fast-growing and large teams is essential.

The Shoes business is a fast-growing, dynamic, and high impact category. We are looking for an executive with deep
Shoes & Bags merchandising and leadership experience to drive this category through a period of intensive growth. The
ideal candidate will be a self-starter with a passion for Shoes, Bags and Fashion, have a high level of flexibility and
commitment, and a strong drive to win. The ideal candidate will be a strong leader, great communicator and negotiator,
and will have the business judgment and analytical horsepower to break down complex problems, the willingness to roll
up his or her sleeves and a strong interest in Amazon’s retail business.
Additionally, this leader will be strong at hiring & developing people, working with Chief Operating Officers, Presidents, or
Vice Presidents of large, high profile Vendors and Suppliers in areas such as strategic planning and contract negotiations,
and have excellent verbal and written communication skills. The successful candidate will be entrepreneurial, innovative,
and excel at “thinking big,” while also recognizing the need to coordinate his or her team’s activities within the established
structure of a large, fast-growing company. Defining and implementing long term business strategies based on industry
trends and competitive analysis and the ability to think outside of the box to solve complex problems are key to success.
In the first year the Category Leader will:
Deliver top & bottom line growth as established by senior leadership
Improve the Fashion customer shopping experience
Mentor & Develop top talent and build a strong leadership team
Reduce out of stocks

Desired Skills and Experience
Qualifications
Softlines experience required.
Experience leading large diverse organizations and functions, such as General Management required.
Demonstrated success in the Shoe & Bag Industry, as well as a strong background in Shoes & Bags Merchandising.
P&L responsibility and proven track record of success defining and delivering innovative big ideas to drive long term results.
Superior analytical skills. Demonstrated ability to identify and solve ambiguous problems. In particular, identifying customer needs and inventing new ways to meet those needs.
Demonstrated ability to operate both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment. High degree of organization and ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously.
Successful experience in hiring, people development, and managing large multi-level teams.
Proven success in contract negotiations and external partners/vendors.
Excellent communication (verbal and written) and collaboration skills that enable you to earn trust at all levels.
Extreme attention to detail and willingness to roll up your sleeves.
Growth potential to develop as a senior executive.
Online experience preferred.
Oral and written fluency in Japanese and English
MBA preferred with 15+ years professional experience.
Bachelor Degree required
