About the role
As Director of Brand Design, you’ll lead the development of the creative vision and strategies for a specific category and/or segment of the Brand Design business.

This role is based in Tokyo and will report to the Vice President Marketing, Nike Japan.
This role will require some travel throughout APAC and to Nike US HQ in Beaverton, Oregon.


Responsibilities

Responsible for all aspects of leadership and management including directing internal staff and/or outside design agencies to develop effective, on-target design solutions, programs and strategies.
Lead, inspire and direct staff designers while providing business leadership, process management and fiscal responsibility.
Direct a team of designers responsible for an assigned segment of the business, providing design guidance, expert knowledge of consumer trends, marketing trends/opportunities and overall business leadership.
Responsible for leading, influencing and/or integrating a variety of design disciplines. This may include graphic communication design, interior architecture, multi-media, writing and research.
Collaborate with design peers to ensure design and communication consistency across the entire Dept. and Nike Brand. You’ll lead a team and/or individuals by establishing direction, key concepts, strategies and brand positioning.
You’ll partner with client groups; develop design briefs, process and strategies that ensure creative excellence. You’ll also develop creative direction that connects with the consumer and/or intended audience and results in a consistent brand message. You’ll also contribute strategically to the business component of Brand Design. In addition, you’ll maintain awareness of department budgets, human resources planning and staffing including Global Brand Management strategies and initiatives.

Desired Skills and Experience
4 Year University degree in Graphic, Architectural, Industrial Design or similar field, or an additional 2 years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
Minimum 10 years of relevant work experience. Extremely strong photography art direction experience. Versatility with design and the ability to take the brand story across all mediums; print, 2D, 3D, retail, digital, e-commerce, photography and campaign work.
Exceptional application of design skills including high-level concept development.
Experience in branding with proven ability to incorporate marketing principles in design. Strong consumer knowledge/insights.
Demonstrated leadership capability including ability to manage, lead and inspire a team of designers.
Advanced business and organizational skills. Experience directing multiple projects with competing resources and deadlines.
Fluency in English (TOEIC minimum 800+) is required.
